BSP Adapter Pressure Ratings and Specialty Fitting Connections

BSP adapters appear in a wide range of materials and applications, from steel and stainless steel to brass, bronze, cast iron, PTFE, PVC, and nylon. Pressure rating depends on the material, thread style, seal design, and the system environment.

Thrust-Wire Fittings for Vibration

Thrust-wire fittings use small rigid wires inserted into holes in the nut or fitting to strengthen the connection. They are used where vibration and pressure are severe, including construction, agriculture, oil and gas, mining, and industrial equipment.

Some thrust-wire BSP configurations are used around 8,000 PSI proof pressure, while JIC versions may be listed around 6,000 PSI proof pressure. Because the wire can be ejected under vibration if not retained properly, the assembly method matters as much as the rating.

Banjo Fittings and Adjustable Orientation

Banjo fittings use a hollow bolt and rounded union to move fluid while allowing the outlet direction to be adjusted. They are common in lower-pressure pneumatic or vehicle systems such as brake calipers, hydraulic clutches, power steering, turbo oil feed, and fuel dosing systems.

The advantage is orientation control without twisting the hose during installation. The limitation is that they are not a substitute for high-pressure hydraulic fittings unless the design and rating specifically allow it.

AN, JIC, and SAE 37 Degree Connections

AN fittings originated from aerospace specifications, while JIC fittings made the 37 degree flare connection practical for general industrial use. JIC fittings are common in construction, agriculture, material handling, and many hydraulic systems.

JIC should not be treated as an aerospace-approved AN replacement. Even when the geometry appears similar, the standards and thread quality requirements may differ.

ORFS Connections for Leak Reduction

O-ring face seal fittings use an elastomeric O-ring at the fitting face. When tightened against a flat face sleeve, the O-ring provides a controlled leak barrier while the metal surfaces support the joint.

ORFS fittings are common where vibration, high pressure, frequent actuation, and warranty expectations make leak reduction important. As with BSP, the correct choice depends on pressure, media, vibration, assembly method, and seal compatibility.
