O-ring face seal hydraulic connections are among the most reliable choices for controlling leakage, but a system can still leak if the design, installation, or operating conditions are wrong. In many cases, the fitting body is not the main cause.
The cost of leakage includes lost oil, downtime, cleanup, component wear, safety risk, and maintenance labor. The visible drip is often only the easiest cost to calculate.
Common Leak Contributors
Hydraulic leaks are often traced to installation and design issues. A common breakdown assigns about 60 percent of leak problems to improper installation, about 20 percent to poor system design, about 15 percent to component quality, and about 5 percent to system abuse.
That means leak prevention starts before the equipment is back in service. Correct assembly, correct pressure rating, compatible seals, proper routing, and a suitable connection type all matter.
Fluid Loss Can Add Up Quickly
When a system runs around the clock and hydraulic oil costs 25 dollars per gallon, even a small leak rate can become expensive over a year.

Why ORFS Connections Help
ORFS fittings place the seal at the face of the fitting with an O-ring between flat sealing surfaces. That makes them a strong option where leakage control is a priority.
The connection still has to be selected and assembled correctly. Seal material, thread condition, torque, pressure rating, vibration, and contamination can all affect whether the joint stays dry in service.
When the cost of downtime and fluid loss is high, an ORFS connection can be an important line of defense against recurring hydraulic leaks.
