Agricultural Fluid Power: Hydraulic Components from Field Machines to Processing Lines

Agricultural equipment relies on fluid power from field work through handling, livestock care, processing, packaging, and transport. The machines may be exposed to dust, moisture, crop residue, fertilizer, manure, chemical spray, vibration, and repeated pressure cycling.
Field Machinery
Combine harvesters use hydraulic hoses for header lift, steering, unloading grain, and other moving functions. These hoses face debris, movement, vibration, and abrasion in the field, so sleeves, wraps, and guards can help protect the cover and reduce premature wear.
Agricultural sprayers use hydraulic power for boom arms, nozzles, steering, and positioning. Because sprayers work around moisture, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, corrosion resistance matters. Zinc-nickel plated components and stainless steel fittings may be considered where chemical exposure is severe.
Barn and Livestock Equipment
Cattle chutes and handling systems can see vibration, impact load, and rapid pressure changes during normal operation. ORFS connections are often useful in these conditions because the elastomeric face seal can help maintain leakage control under pressure cycling.
Telehandlers also depend on hydraulics for lifting and moving heavy loads such as hay bales or support platforms. Test point fittings can help technicians check pressure and fluid condition at the machine without disassembling lines, making it easier to catch pressure loss, contamination, or flow problems early.
From Farm to Facility
Agricultural hydraulics do not stop at the field. Processing and packaging equipment may use fluid power for conveyors, lifting, sorting, filling, compacting, and moving product. In these areas, cleanliness, corrosion resistance, and correct material selection are important because food, moisture, washdown, and chemical exposure may be present.
Identification and Replacement
Farm equipment can combine inch-based, metric, and imported connection standards. Laser markings, thread gauges, seat angle gauges, and accurate part identification help reduce downtime when a damaged hose, adapter, or fitting has to be replaced during the season.
